Ok, they’re not sugar free cupcakes, but they are reduced sugar cupcakes. There is more information to come, but first a little company history. Mrs.Freshley’s was introduced in 1994. Its’ parent company is Flowers Foods. Mrs. Freshley’s was originally developed for the vending machine market, but was taken to retail stores in 1997. They have more than 50 different snack cakes and pastries. The company boasts that their line of cupcakes and pastries have become synonymous with freshness, quality, and great taste. They also talk about the awards they have won, but we want to know about their reduced sugar cupcakes.

Mrs. Freshley’s offers a line under the name “snackaway” that basically offers reduced fat, 100 calorie cupcakes. These are not sugar free cupcakes or even no sugar added cupcakes. However, they have one item, a reduced sugar chocolate cupcake that is crème filled and has chocolate icing. The company advertises that these cupcakes have 75% less sugar. I can tell you from personal experience that these reduced sugar crème filled chocolate cup cakes are very good. I found one of the attractive attributes is the icing. Although I do not know for sure, but it is probably the icing that causes these reduced sugar cupcakes to not be sugar free cupcakes. Again, I can tell you from personal experience that these reduced sugar crème filled chocolate cupcakes have 5gm of sugar per cupcake. This is pretty much on a par with a slice of bread.

One last item offered by the Mrs. Freshley’s “snackaway” line is the no sugar added muffins. I have not personally seen these no sugar added Wild Blueberry Muffin and therefore cannot tell you the sugar content. I only know from the company advertising that they are a no sugar added muffin. So for those of you looking for a sweet treat with as little sugar as possible, the reduced sugar crème filled chocolate iced chocolate cupcake is what you are looking for. One last thing, I can’t tell you where to find them. As I said, I have had this product, but the store where I purchased them no longer carries them. Sorry.
